Greening the Music Industry Live Earth loves music. We believe the collaboration between music and public activism is a great way to draw attention and spread our important message.

But the music industry needs to take even greater strides in greening the industry and their products because along with all the benefits, like fantastic music and terrific entertainment, there are also some drawbacks: electronic waste.

We understand, putting on a performance takes a lot of material and most of the materials that are used aren’t exactly eco-friendly like: tour bus emissions, the one billion polyvinyl chloride CD cases produced each year, light bulbs, merchandise and food packaging waste.

Slowly but surely, many labels, small and large, are starting to take the right steps to green the industry.

Phantom Energy: Unplug and Save Did you know that electronic devices burn excess energy when not in use?

Even when switched “off,” appliances and accessories like chargers for mobile phones, digital cameras, power tools, and television monitors continue to draw power as long as they are plugged into an outlet. This “phantom energy” use accounts for up to 10 percent of an individual’s electricity use… that could be around $200 dollars per year for a typical home.

Here are a tips to combat the phantom load:

Unplug to save money! To make it easier you can also plug all devices into a surge protector that can be clicked on and off. Real Simple states, “Sixty to 80 percent of the electricity [TVs and DVDs] use is consumed while they’re idle.” Yikes!
Get organized! Store all chargers in one location and just retrieve when needed and return when item is fully charged. If they are plugged in, they are sucking up electricity whether charging a device or not.
Buy energy-efficient appliances. A list of products can be found at EnergyStar.gov.

Safari/Chrome compatibility, Nabble forums, and more 10/13/2008 43 Comments   I'm happy to finally announce full compatibility with Safari 3+ on Windows and Mac and Google Chrome. Although Weebly has been cross-platform since the beginning with Firefox, you can now use Weebly if your browser of choice is Safari or Google Chrome.

We've also released a new feature: Nabble forums. Under the "More" tab, you can now add forums to your site by dragging on the "Nabble forums" icon!

This release also incorporates quite a few bug fixes and small updates, while we work hard to continue making Weebly the easiest and friendliest possible way to make a website.

We also want to officially welcome Justin and Drew to the team. Justin is our in-house designer and master of slick UIs. He's working hard on making everything look good, and has designed a ton of brand new themes that we're releasing soon.

Drew is arguably the first Weebly to relocate to join us, and for that we're very grateful. He's made the move from Arizona to Sausalito, and is working on adding new features and fixing bugs. For the next couple weeks, he'll be working on a new re-design of the site, which we hope to launch soon.

All of us are working non-stop to make Weebly the best web site creation experience out there. We're
listening closely to your feedback and suggestions, and are working on the top features you've requested. Thanks again for using Weebly, and be sure to let us know if there's anything we can do to make it better for you!
